No official announcement of a tour has been made yet, however over the past week several new dates for Alicia Keys have trickled in.
The singing sensation who last month wrapped up her arena tour of North America will hit the road in September again. She will be visiting theaters this time around. So far eight shows have been scheduled by Keys in the US along with one Vancouver date.
Keys is continuing to support “As I Am,” her third studio set. It was released in November and went on to become the biggest debut of any R&B female artist in SoundScan history. During the first week of its release the album sold over 742,000 units. It also set atop Billboard’s 200 for multiple non-consecutive weeks. Since then the album has earned triple platinum status as well as spawning hit singles “No One,” winner of two Grammy Awards, “Teenage Love Affair,” and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again.” The video for “Superwoman,” Keys’ new single, streams from her website.
The recent Keys tour for “As I Am” also served as a text message donation drive. It helped to raise over $40,000 for Keys’ organization Keep A Child Alive. The non-profit provides millions of AIDS suffers in Africa with anti-viral drugs. At each of her concerts Keys took a few minutes to show film clips from her “Alicia in Africa: Journey to the Motherland” to help encourage her fans to make donations.
In other news from Keys, the singer will be joining Jack White, a fellow multiple Grammy Award winner, to record Quantum of Solace’s theme song, the 22nd adventure in the James Bond series. The song’s tile is “Another Way to Die” and will become the first duet in history for the Bond soundtracks. The new movie is scheduled to be released into theaters in November. The release date for the soundtrack is October 28.
In October Keys will also be appearing opposite Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Dakota Fanning in “The Secret Life of Bees,” a film adaptation of the best selling novel by Sue Monk Kidd.
